Full course of ketamine-assisted therapy
01
Initial online interview
The first step for anyone interested in ketamine-assisted therapy is an initial online appointment. During the call, we will discuss the client’s expectations and answer any questions. We will also talk about the suitability of ketamine-assisted therapy for the client, as this treatment is not a good fit for everyone.
02
Comprehensive psychiatric evaluation
Before starting ketamine-assisted therapy, each client must undergo a comprehensive psychiatric assessment by our psychiatrist. Discussed will be the client’s current mental state and previous treatments, and the psychiatrist will carefully evaluate whether the treatment is suitable for the client.
03
Physical examination
To ensure that ketamine-assisted therapy is a safe choice for the client, a physical examination with blood sampling and heart tests (echocardiography or ECG) is required. This examination can be performed directly right in our clinic in the internal medicine office.
04
Ketamine-assisted therapy
The ketamine-assisted treatment itself is a series of several sessions consisting of preparation sessions, ketamine experience sessions, and integration sessions to help process the ketamine experience. The treatment plan is always individualized, based on the initial psychiatric evaluation.
In this session you will get to know your therapist, learn about the basics of the treatment, and have the opportunity to discuss any topics of personal interest. The main focus will be on preparation for the ketamine experience, including training exercises to develop the necessary skills. The therapist will be available to answer any questions you may have.
In this session you will have your own therapeutic experience of an expanded state of consciousness. We will prepare you in advance for this experience and familiarize you with the basic psychological tools you may want to use during the session. We will guide you through the entire experience and will be available for any of your needs, potentially including e.g. bodywork. You will be examined by a medical doctor both before and after the session to ensure maximum safety.
We believe that integrating the ketamine experience, i.e. processing and interpreting its contents in the context of your life, is crucial to helping you achieve the longer-term changes in your life that you seek. Therefore, in addition to reflecting on your ketamine experience, we will also look at your everyday life experience and look for appropriate mechanisms to help you become more satisfied.
